Implement of Shape Memory Alloy Actuators in a Robotic Hand
Daniel Amariei,
Ion Vela,
Wolfgang Ziegler
This paper was conceived to present the ideology of utilizing advanced actuators to design and develop innovative, lightweight, powerful, compact, and as much as possible dexterous robotic hands. The key to satisfying these objectives is the use of Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) to power the joints of the robotic hand. The mechanical design of a dexterous robotic hand, which utilizes non-classical types of actuation and information obtained from the study of biological systems, is presented in this paper. The type of robotic hand described in this paper will be utilized for applications requiring low weight, power, compactness, and dexterity.

Multi-Parameter Analysis of Surface Finish in
Electro-Discharge Machining of Tool Steels
Cornelia Victoria Anghel ,
Georgios Petropoulos
The paper presents a multi- parameter analysis of surface finish
imparted to tool-steel plates by electro-discharge machining (EDM) is
presented. The interrelationship between surface texture parameters
and process parameters is emphasized. An increased number of
parameters is studied including amplitude, spacing, hybrid and fractal
parameters,, as well. The correlation of these parameters with the
machining conditions is investigated. Observed characteristics become
more pronounced, when intensifying machining conditions. Close
correlation exists between certain surface finish parameters and EDM
input variables and single and multiple statistical regression models are
developed.

Substantiating the Decision Regarding the Acquirement
of Ships used in Seagoing Transport
Ion Botescu
The tonnage call and bid has suffered a cyclic evolution on the international
seagoing transport market. More than that, the person that
wishes to acquire a ship must take into consideration a series of elements.
The economical reasoning as well as the international practice
emphasize that the profit coming from exploitation prevails over the initial
price of the acquisition when the buyer focuses on a certain type of
ship. In the current paper we approach the naval investments problems
from this perspective.

of the international markets, including markets in developing countries.
A multinational firm’s decision to open a branch or a subsidiary in another
country, thus to invest abroad, is based on efficiency criteria, the
obtained profit having a primordial aspect. We mustn’t forget the various
advantages the host country befits of, here mentioning the transfer
of technology. The unprecedented foreign amalgamation of multinational
firms was brought on by the continuous liberalization of international
commerce and investment fluxes.

The Innovating Enterprise
Jeanina Biliana Ciurea
The technological revolution triggers important transformations at the
company level. In the context of the transition towards an economy
based on knowledge and of the increasingly sharp competition at the
global level, the competitiveness of a company is determined by its capacity
to invest in know-how, technologies and knowledge which allow
it to optimise the effects obtained at the level of the company as a result
of the creation and sale of certain new technologies. In an economy
based on knowledge, the competitive company is receptive to the
novelties of the environment, able to continuously and rapidly adapt to
the changes brought by the technical progress. The managers of great multinational holdings have become aware of
the fact that, in the long run, the only way to achieve the continuous
improvement of performances, to satisfy the shareholders’ goals of
maximising the company value, to increase the employees’ satisfaction,
to maintain competitiveness and a top position in the industry where
the company operates, is to innovate.

Pricing the Innovation for Market Introduction
Danut Tiberius Epure
The factors that influence pricing strategy change over the life of a
product concept. The market defined by a product concept passes
through four phases: development, growth, maturity, and decline.
Briefly, the changes in the strategic environment over those phases are
as follows: Market development. Buyers are price insensitive because
they knowledge of the product’s benefits. Both production and not a
threat since the potential gains from market development exceed those
from competitive rivalry. Pricing strategy signals the product’s value to
potential buyers, but buyer education remains the key to sales growth.

Milan Rackov
The paper deals with problematic of gear units and machine foundating
and consequences that occur by foundation screws releasing. Namely,
reliable operating of gear units, as well as other stationary machines,
requires properly foundating. However, after certain period of time,
relaxation of screw material, self-untightening of nuts and looseness of
foundation screws influence on reducing the force of preload screw
tightening and unequal load distribution. This unequal load distribution
causes unequal deformations, which generate occuring vibrations. In
extreme cases, breakages of screws and heavier accidents of systems
driven by that gear units or machines can happen. With this paper
authors want to indicate influence of deterioration degree on its load
capacity.

On Simulation of Electromagnetic Devices with
Standard Coils
Iancu Tatucu ,
Lenuta Suciu
For many electromagnetic devices, the field coils may be considered as
being stranded, i.e. we may neglect the surface effect. We thus consider
such a coil with N turns (windings), the transversal section of one
turn Sc, the space factor s, supplied with electric voltage Ur. We
term Sb the sectional area of the coil, but many simulation software
programmes are conceived to admit only massive electric conductors
supplied in voltage. Consequently, it is imposed that a massive conductor
replaces the coil, with the same geometry as the coil and having the
cross section equal to Ss In order to ensure, that the electromagnetic
process takes place in a way similar to the case of the real coil, the
power supply of the conductor should be made with a reduced voltage.
The paper establishes the connection relation between these voltages
according to the parameter, which we desire to keep unchanged.
